At the meets end Holland came out at the top with a 3rd place meet trophy! With only 10 girls swimming and 4 who couldn't make it to the meet I would have to say that the Holland swim team is small but mighty!! So watch out because they are unstoppable!! Big dreams and big hearts will carry this team a long way.

Please consider coming out to support a hard working team. Our first home meet is Tuesday, September 16th. For most of you who are reading this that is tommorow. Attached is a schedule of the Girls Varsity Swim Team Meets.....please feel free to print and post. It also wouldn't hurt to encourage your students to attend as well.

Sportsmanship can be defined as conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, and striving spirit. Swimming in three lanes and choosing to only have two lanes earning points the girls pulled out a sportsmanship award worthy win over Lackawanna with a final score Holland 103 and Lackawanna 49. Let‘s not forget the faculty staff that made an appearance. We had a record number of faculty staff attending our meet last night so with out further delay lets give them props for taking  time out of the schedules to come  see on of the best group of athletes here at Holland. Starting with the middle school we had Mr. Lawton, and Miss Gedraitis and from the high school we had Mr. Biryla, Mrs. Shean, and Mrs., Morris. The girls really notice this and really appreciate your support. Our next meet is Friday at JFK and or next home meet in on Tuesday, October 7th against Clevehill. Hope to see you there!!

10/4/08
On Friday your Girls Varsity Swim Team swam against JFK in another sportsmanship friendly meet. The final score was Holland 97 JFK 66. In order to prevent running up the score Holland decided to put some top swimmers in JV events and have every swimmer swim at least one event they haven’t swam yet this season. At the meets conclusion Holland was able to walk away with another win plus one new school record, two sectional qualifiers, three personal best times and six more ECIC qualifying times. This just goes to show Holland never walks away with nothing. Please consider coming out to support the girls at their next home swim meet against a tough opponent Cleveland Hill on Tuesday, October 7th at 4:30. Not only doesn’t the team do well in the water but they also make a difference out of the water as well. About half of the team was able to support and participate in the making strides breast cancer walk this past Sunday.

Your Girls Varsity Swim Team pulled out ahead with the meet coming down to the last relay the girls won against Cleveland Hill; scoring 93 points to Cleveland Hill’s 77 points. This was a meet you shouldn’t have missed. The fans were at the edge of their seat to entire meet.  Ten personal best times were achieved, one more sectional qualifying time and two more school records. That puts us at four new school records out of a total of  eleven events. If you struggle with the thought that you missed yet another Girls Varsity Swim Meet….NO WORRIES….. we have just ONE more home swim meet. I will see everyone on Tuesday, October 21st at 4:30 be there or be left out of the excitement.

“Neck and Neck” wouldn’t even begin to explain what went on last night when your Girls Varsity Swim Team squeaked out another win. The score before diving was Holland 20 Tonawanda 14. Holland not having a diving board therefore not having divers was not able to hold that lead to Tonawanda at the conclusion of diving. Tonawanda gained 7 points from diving making the score Holland 20 Tonawanda 21. The second to last event Holland clinched a first and third making the score Holland 45 Tonawanda 46 .It was definitely nerve racking until the conclusion of the last event with Holland taking first and third and Tonawanda taking second making the final score of the meet Holland 52 Tonawanda 49. Once again the team concludes a meet with not only a win but nine new personal best times a time drop in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 8 out of the 12 events Holland was able to take first. But there is more the team captains Meg DeMario and Samantha Gonter were able to place first place in all four of their events they swam. The girls fought long and hard right down to the last event for this win and deserved every bit of it!

Last night your Girls Varsity Swim Team had a tough pill to swallow after taking first place in seven out of eleven events, achieving ten personal best times, bettering the 200 freestyle relay’s sectional time, having two more swimmers qualify for ECIC’s along with one new school record; it seemed clear that Holland dominated for pretty much the entire meet.
Holland would have won by eleven if only the coach was able to throw in a red flag and challenge the call. For the final event, the ruling was that the lead swimmer of the first place relay false started. After the coach reviewed the tape, thanks to Mr. Gonter, the lead swimmer clearly did not false start. By not having the option to challenge the call, they ruled dual confirmation of officials and the final score was a disappointing Holland 84.5 Alden 85.5 despite the 19.26 second difference between Holland and Alden’s final relay time. Prior to the last event that brought Holland’s spirits down, Holland was still up by nine points. Clearly depicting one heck of a fight by your Girls Varsity Swim Team, they deserve a great deal of recognition. Our final home swim meet will be on Tuesday, October 21st against the tough team from Springville and our final regular season meet will be at Pioneer on Friday, October 24th. Both meets starts at 4:30. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Last night the Girls Varsity Swim Team “put up their dukes” with a tough fight against Springville. Taking the lead in the sixth event and holding them off in the seventh event as well Holland unfortunately was not able to hold them off until the end. The final score of the meet was Holland 77 and Springville 93. With many close races the positive outcome was plenty of personal best times. Holland had at least one swimmer in every event better their time and in most cases it was multiple swimmers per event bettering their times. In total Holland was able to walk away with their heads high achieving 17 personal best times, four first place finishes, eight second place finishes, three third place finishes and another new school record. Let’s not forget that the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay both bettered their sectional qualifying times. Now wait just a second we have more. We also had a best in support with four faculty / staff members at the meet to support the team. Those dedicated individuals are Mrs. Tucker, Mrs, Orrange, Mr. Buckenmeyer and Mr. Bett. You still have just one more chance before post season to make it to one of the most exciting sports events around. The girls last swim meet will be this Friday at Pioneer. The meet starts at 4:30. Hope to see you there!

Friday night your Girls Varsity Swim Team once again swam with outstanding results. Being the last regular season meet for our seniors it was certainly one to remember. Holland out swam Pioneer with a final score Holland 55 Pioneer 43. Along with the win Holland brought home eight new personal best times, one more ECIC qualifier, and one new and improved school record. Does anyone know what time it is? Every minute of sleep lost is completely worth it when you have a team like I do! Each and every one of these girls proved what being a true athlete really is all about. Not only did the Holland Girls Varsity Swim Team light up the night with outstanding performances last night at the ECIC meet, they were also able to completely shatter the one meet old 400 Freestyle Relay school record by 6.72 seconds. The 400 Freestyle Relay team which consists of Chelsea Kline, Louise Isaacs, Laurel Mitchell and Samantha Gonter has a new and improved time of 4:02.13 and was also able to clinch 3rd place and will be swimming in ECIC finals this Thursday. In other news the 200 Freestyle Relay of Laurel Mitchell, Aimee Lindner, Meg DeMario and Louise Issacs was also able to better their time and place 7th which puts them in ECIC finals on Thursday as well. On to our individual events Chelsea Kline was able to blaze through the water with a new personal best time in the 100 free. So in case you are wondering the way that the ECIC preliminary meet runs is that the top 16 of this meet will continue on to compete at the ECIC finals meet on Thursday. The following swimmers will be returning to the ECIC finals on Thursday at Sweet Home High School. Meet starts at 6:00 pm. Now I know it's not soccer but your support would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s to another late night definitely worth staying up for. You’re Girls Varsity Swim Team  did a phenomenal job last night as they took on the small schools in the ECIC-finals meet at Sweet Home High School.  Over all Holland placed 5th out of the 12 schools participating; beating out Amherst, Springville, Tonawanda, Alden, Maryvale, Clevehill and JFK. The tougher competition came from East Aurora (1st), Starpoint (2nd), Eden (3rd) and Depew (4th). The Holland girls held their ground with two personals best times, two new school records and seven ECIC patches. Not only that the 400 Freestyle Relay was able to drop even more time totaling a drop of 8.24 seconds between Tuesday and Thursdays meet. As a coach I couldn’t be happier by the results of this meet. The girls have been putting in so much and putting out even more at the meets, resulting in great times, great records, and great fun!
